Housemanship part 1

It has been a year plus since I have started working as a houseman in a government hospital in Malaysia . I thought i promised myself to write every now and than when i have started working , but i failed to do so . Lol . But alhamdulillah , im still alive , surviving this challenging pathway .

Here i am , writing again , determined to convince youngsters out there NOT TO DO MEDICINE ! but if youve passed your professional exam , already got a degree in medicine , im here to tell you about my journey as a houseman. Its going to be an exciting story .

Choosing medicine as a career;
I used to think that doing medicine is all fun. (Pengaruh drama House and Greys anatomy) but the reality is , it is NOT! Well , im only telling this based on my 1 year plus experience being in medical field as a houseman, other people may have a different experience than i had , but this is my story.

So , once you have passed you final professional exam, (which I thought was among the most stressful experience in my life) you will have this period of being unemployed for quite some time (for me it was around 7-8 months i think?). Dear juniors , please use that time wisely !Travel the world, binge on netflix/movies/korean drama, create new hobbies, find your jodoh and even get married!(LOL) because trust me , once you have started working , you will find it hard to find time for all these.

When the period of being unemployed comes to an end , here comes the battle to chose your housemanship placement aka eHouseman. eHouseman is a total warzone , just be prepared , you can read about it in other blogger's blog on what to do , where to click , which internet cafe to choose. In terms of choosing your hospital, my humble opinion would be;

1. Chose a hospital which is near to your hometown 
2. If you were to chose somewhere further away from your hometown , at least have a friend /bestfriend with you in that particular hospital

Reason being is because it will be hard. Housemanship is hard , tagging period is tiring , you will need someone to comfort you or at least a familiar face to rant things to. ( I will tell you all about my journey as a 1st poster in my next post. ;))

As for me , my best friend and i had a few list of hospitals that we had in mind. We prepared the list over roti canai at a mamak stall just prior ehouseman and these were our top list ;

1. Hospital Tuanku Ja'afar Seremban
2. Hospital Batu Pahat
3. Hospital Muar

And yeap , im currently doing my housemanship at Hospital Tuanku Ja'afar Seremban. (Horraayy)

Following ehouseman , you will need to attend PTM where you and other colleagues will gather and listen to some talk on being a government servant, doing some group activities yada yada yada.

And when that ends , congrats, you are now a houseman, Kuli for the next 2 years of life.
